How many lengths of belt conveyor must be fitted with pull rope switches
News 2025-05-06
First of all the pull rope switch of the belt conveyor does not need to be installed on all equipments, it is designed according to the length of the equipment.
The role of the pull rope switch on the belt conveyor is mainly when the belt conveyor operation process personnel near the danger zone (such as pulleys, rollers), material clogging, equipment abnormality (tearing, deflection, skidding) or fire and other emergencies, the site personnel can immediately pull the pull rope, triggering the switch to cut off the power supply, to achieve rapid shutdown, to avoid the expansion of the accident; or bidirectional triggering mechanism, the belt conveyor on both sides of the installation of pull rope switch is installed on both sides of the belt conveyor, any side is pulled can be shut down, to ensure that the operator in different positions can quickly respond. So in fact, it also belongs to a kind of protection device!
How long is the distance between the belt conveyor and the pull rope switch? Commonly installed spacing standards general spacing range:
Most codes recommend that pull rope switches be installed between 20 and 50 meters apart on the same side of the belt conveyor. Some regulations require a pull rope switch to be installed every 20 meters, e.g. long belt conveyors are usually installed with 5-6 switches per section.11 When installed bilaterally, pull rope switches must be installed in pairs on both sides of the belt conveyor to ensure that either side of the belt conveyor can be triggered to shut down in the event of an emergency.
In fact, the installation spacing of belt conveyor pull rope switches needs to be flexibly adjusted according to the actual application scenario and safety regulations, and is not completely fixed in terms of position and length. The common reference standard is 20~50 meters. It is recommended to follow the following 3 principles as a priority:
1. Long-distance conveyors (e.g. more than 50 meters) should be installed in sections of 20~30 meters;
2. Shorten the spacing to less than 50 meters in special areas (e.g. climbing section);
3. Double-sided installation and ensure that the operating height and tension of the pull rope comply with the specifications.
